SMILE stands for Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences. It is a pre-college program designed to encourage traditionally disadvantaged students to do well in school, enrich their understanding of math and science, and go on to college, possibly majoring in math or science related fields.
Now in its 30th year, SMILE is a state-wide program funded in part by Oregon State University. The program is designed to allow students to continue in the program from 4th grade through high school.
SMILE club meets once per week after school for an enrichment activity, and takes field trips occasionally, including an annual Challenge event at Oregon State University. The high school club has about 25 active members.
