What does a School Counselor do?
I have the genuine pleasure of working with students through individual counseling, SEL (Social Emotional Learning) lessons, college & career advising, small groups, and conflict resolution. I also collaborate with school staff and parents to best meet the needs of ALL students.
Individual Counseling:
Students can benefit from one-on-one counseling in a confidential, supportive, and non-judgemental environment. Students can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and talk about social or emotional challenges. Students can also discuss academic or school issues, have supportive LGBTQ+ conversations, and take part in healthy conflict resolution. I meet with a student at least twice before reaching out for parent permission.
College and Career Advising:
Assist students in understanding their post-HS plans and completing financial aid options such as FAFSA/ORSAA, scholarships, Oregon Promise, etc. Provide transcripts. Help promote post secondary opportunities such as Trade School, Community College, 4 Year Universities, Military and other technical training options.
Small Group Counseling
A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-7 members and typically meet once a week to once a month. I work closely with teachers and admin in determining the group referral process.
Other Services/Roles:
504 Case Manager, Parent/Teacher consultation, classroom lessons, crisis counseling/response, IEP support (as needed), behavior intervention, referrals for outside services and community resources, and conflict management
How do I see Mrs. Cleaver?
Students are able to see me at any time needed throughout the school day. If not in the office, there is a dropbox by the door to leave a message for an appointment upon my return, as well as a form in the Google classroom "Tracy Cleaver's Counseling Room" (Code: rsiollj2) that will let me know you need to meet.
Please reach out if you have any questions!
