March 12, 2020
Nyssa School District Parents, Staff, and Community,
We would like to provide you with an update on this morning's message from Governor Kate Brown and what it means to our schools. In the Governor’s guidance, we are asked to:
Limit large gatherings for 250 people or more; and
Keep schools open but limit all "non-essential school-associated gatherings and group activities.”
Based on this guidance from Oregon Department of Education the Nyssa School District is canceling all sports competitions, field trips, group meetings, and professional learning activities for at least the next four weeks. We will have more information and updates as that date approaches.
Below is additional clarification:
Sports Competitions: All games will be canceled until further notice, but we will still hold practices.
Field Trips: All trips scheduled will be canceled until further notice, beginning today, March 12, 2020 with the potential to be rescheduled.
Extracurricular Activities and social gatherings: Canceled until further notice. This includes dances, competitions, and outside groups using district facilities, with the potential of being rescheduled.
Parent-Teacher Conferences and other Group Meetings: We will not have face to face Parent-Teacher Conferences next week. Instead, conferences will occur by phone, skype, and/or email. Since each school has a different configuration, please look for more information from your school's principal outlining this process.
Professional Learning Activities: All staff trips scheduled for professional learning will be canceled until further notice. The April 3rd School improvement day in Ontario will not occur in Ontario but we will have local activities here.
We are working closely with local and state health and education professionals to help keep our students, staff and community as safe as possible. We are receiving new information daily so please check our website and app frequently for any up to date changes in the guidance we are receiving from state authorities.
Thank you for your understanding and support,
Darren Johnson
